FAQ
A sling's marked SWL applies to a straight vertical pull; using it at an angle, in a basket hitch, or as a choker reduces its effective capacity, so a rigger derates the tag value according to the actual hitch used on the job. Buyers and crews need to understand this derating themselves — reading the certificate alone doesn't tell them the safe load for every configuration.
A shackle is the connecting hardware joining a sling, hook, or padeye together, carrying its own certified SWL and identification marking independent of the sling it's paired with. Buyers order shackles as separate rated items and match the shackle's SWL to the sling and the load, rather than assuming the two components automatically share the same limit just because they're used together.
Loose gear is normally replaced once thorough examination finds wear, deformation, or corrosion beyond tolerance for its rating, rather than being repaired or downgraded for continued use. That examination is carried out by a separate load-testing and inspection provider; the sling supplier's role is to have new gear ready, matched to the original specification, so a failed item can be swapped in promptly.
